special-occasion cake needs. She is wonderfully flexible and creative and has
graciously worked with me in the many challenging cake needs I've requested of
her. From a "manly fruitcake with masculine corners," to a delightful
teapot-shaped cake, to a very impressive clown fish birthday cake; I've been
nothing but pleased with her professional presentation. She also consistently
meets my delivery requests, replies efficiently to e-mails and is willing to work
within my price ranges. If you are looking for a scrumptious, one-of-a-kind cake, Marion Barnes is your woman.I already was a fan of her cakes, having sampled those she had made for various office farewells and celebrations, but it wasn't until I began looking through her photos of wedding cakes that I realized exactly how talented she is. Most of the work cakes were fairly routine: "Good luck, so-and-so" with your standard icing roses and edges. Not so with her special-occasion cakes. I was lucky enough to be the recipient of two of them in the past month, one for my bridal shower and one for my wedding. The shower cake's design was a complete surprise. I expected the standard "Good luck" and roses, but Marion wouldn't have it. Knowing that I love to collect old dishes, Marion got ahold of one of my favorite pieces and created its replica in cake and icing form. I was astounded and couldn't get over the skill and creativity she put into the likeness. Of all the shower photos I later shared with out-of-towners, the cake was the one I made sure they saw. |
 As if that weren't enough, Marion was able to take the ideas that my fiance and I had for a wedding cake and come up with something that surpassed our wildest expectations. In addition to making cakes, Marion is a talented mosaic artist, so I asked if she could make a mosaic cake. The theme of our wedding was color, and Marion turned out the most colorful, gorgeous wedding cake I have ever seen. She came up with several tricks to make the cake a true centerpiece (for instance, adding flowers between layers to give it lift), and she knew all the right questions to ask regarding flavor, icing type, reception maneuvering, you name it.We were excited about the cake but knew we wouldn't see it in its final form until the reception. When I walked up the stairs to the reception, the cake was the first thing I saw, and I was obsessed with it all night, making sure that everyone got a look. When it came time to cut the cake, I really dreaded destroying such a beautiful work of art. | We've been getting our cakes from Myriad for more than a year, and we are very pleased with the service. Every cake tastes great and features an original look — not just the same flower treatment every time. Myriad has provided cakes to us for retirements, employee departures, baby showers and birthdays. There never is a single slice left over, it is so delicious. And the fact that Myriad delivers makes the whole event that much more pleasant because I don't have to sacrifice my lunch hour to run to the grocery store.
